Dale then asked for a tune-up match. Much to his surprise, he was next booked to
face Arin Gaoluon! Gaoluon, a certified madman who enjoyed hurting his rivals and
had just gotten away with the murder of Erica Ravenheart, was decided to shatter
"The Mirror", but to no avail. Their encounter ended in a double DQ, but before
the officers could get between them, Arin took a kitchen knife and cut Dale
across the chest. Bleeding profusely, Dale was rushed to a local hospital where
he spent the night. But "The Mirror"was changed once again. The resulting scar
of this event, which he still sports on his chest up to this day, became a
recordatory of the evil and perversity present in the business. And far from sidetracking
Stanwycz, it made him stronger. He became a darker, more complex character...
but still maintained his overall sweet, happy-go-luck persona, becoming
DCWL's ultimate babyface. |
But as Dale's career seemed to progress, he suffered a major blow a few weeks later.
On July 29, 1998, his father Vladimir passed away from a heart attack. He was
66 years old. Dale was devastated, yet he had to follow his path. After an uncertain
start with a newcomer's battle royal and two victories over Insanity and
"Dashing" Damien DeMarco, two promising hotshots, Dale started getting more
airwave time, while honing his flashing abilities and getting more acquainted with
the DCWL ways. |
That didn't change the fact he was now scarred both physically and psychologically,
though. Dale Stanwycz, now half-orphaned, decided to start spending the big
bucks he was earning: He returned to his native Grand Rapids and co-founded the
Judy Garland Children Foundation in association with the Judy Garland Company.
A large building was constructed, designed to shelter, feed and educate over 300
orphaned children every year. Dale realized there was so much pain and so much
suffering for the little ones, and started doing something about it. At least
back home. The Foundation also relocates the kids and finds them adequate families
willing to adopt. They also monitor closely the development of all children
at their new homes, with Dale following things to the last detail. |
