But days weren't always of wine and roses for Stanwycz. Two months after capturing
the DCWL tag belts, Dale and Traxx lost them to the team of Lil' J One and Preston "The Machine" Maurice, with some help from special referee "Payback" Steve Payne. On addition, they too lost the WWA tag belts in a cage match against Sabbath Justice,
again with outside help from The Attack Dogs, WWA's newest addition. But in
February 26, 1999, at DCWL's PUBLIC DESTRUCTION III, Dale had some retribution against the sneaky Maurice by defeating him to become the
new DCWL World Champ! |
After overcoming immense challengers in the form of General Pentagon, Jackson Hunter, Smooth Da Hustla and Syn, Dale was ready for some bad times. Blake Coleman became the new UWAC commissioner, oddly enough, while he was still CIWA's CEO (which took NWF's place). Since Syn jumped ship from CIWA to freelancing shortly
before his title match with Dale, CIWA demanded to have another of their
representatives compete for the Universal Title at the next OVERDRIVE. In a controversial
decision, Coleman approved it, and CIWA chose Devastator as the new challenger. In an unfortunate twist of fate, Elaine Stanwycz, Dale's wife,
lost their new baby just a mere four days prior to the PPV. While it remains
uncertain if these turns of events influenced the UWAC champion, the fact was
Dale Stanwycz, the man... was totally destroyed. Emotionally shattered. Mentally
devastated. Ironically enough, Devastator defeated Dale "The Mirror" Stanwycz
to wrest the UWAC Universal title from him. Less than one month later, the UWAC
folded... with the Universal Title Belt within the CIWA's grasp. |
The loss of his son (the soon-to-be Dale Jr.) transformed Dale "The Mirror" Stanwycz
once again. He lost his love for the sport and, shrouded by the mockery of
his closest enemies, announced his untimely retirement at age 30. From here and
on, Dale bent on his family entirely, and one year later, Dale was reborn with
the birth of the twins Brian and Kyra. Dale was even invited to compete in the IWL, but he was far from being in his best
shape. He was overweight and rusty, and was brutalized by both Nosferatu and The Capitol, who evidently wanted to retire "The Mirror" definitely... and they almost did. After
this brief stint in the IWL, Dale opened the Vladimir Stanwycz Wrestling Academy in Saint Paul, Minnesota, to pass on his knowledge to the next generation.
